Nate Mendel, the bassist of the famed Foo Fighters, announced that he has been busy working on his side project; the band Lieutenant. Just last year, Mendel spoke about the band and his aspirations for their first album and now their debut If I Kill This Thing We’re All Going to Eat for a Week is set to hit the shelves this spring.

With Lieutenant, Mendel is stepping to the forefront as frontman for the band as well as the primary songwriter for the album. If I Kill This Thing We’re All Going to Eat for a Week will feature appearances by many talented musicians such as Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse and Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shifflet.

The band has played just a handful of shows in California over the past couple of months, but they are expected to schedule a tour in accordance with their debut album.

“Believe the Squalor,” the first single released from the album is a slower jam that sounds as if influenced by Pink Floyd.

Below is the album’s tracklist:

01 “Belle Epoque”
02 “The Place You Wanna Go”
03 “Believe The Squalor”
04 “Rattled”
05 “Prepared Remarks”
06 “Some Remove”
07 “Sink Sand”
08 “Artificial Limbs”
09 “Lift The Sheet”

With two decades of rock success behind him, Nate Mendel is reaching in a new direction that is different from anything he’s worked on before.

If I Kill This Thing We’re All Going to Eat for a Week is set to be released on March 10th and is now available for preorder on iTunes.
