Review: 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Is a Wonderful Tribute to Queen

Olivia Luisi ‘22 / Emertainment Monthly Staff Writer
Bohemian Rhapsody is a phenomenal movie that brings the audience into the lives of the iconic members of the band, Queen. This movie is wildly successful due to how many people’s lives are affected by the band’s music. Even if people who saw the movie didn’t realize they knew Queen’s music they would find themselves singing along with Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek), the lead singer of the band.
The journey of the band becoming a worldwide sensation is inspiring to many individuals in the music industry. The movie did a fantastic job of portraying the artists struggle to have people believe in their capabilities. This is due to their style of music being so different from what the industry was used to during that time. Although the industry didn’t believe in them at first the band continued to stick by each other’s side no matter how ridiculous their ideas sounded.

When the band pitched “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the label didn’t want to release it because of the song lasting six minutes. In this scene, the band decided to leave the label even though they had been successful through them before. They believed so heavily in the song that no one could change their minds. Watching this all unfold on screen motivated audiences around the country to never take no as an answer and to work hard for your dreams to come true.
One scene that was breathtaking was the behind the scenes of one of their music videos when they were dressed up in drag. People who weren’t huge Queen fans might have been shocked to see that all four members of the band were dressing as women in the 80s. The scene was exactly like the actual music video, which was nostalgic for many audiences. The movie was a perfect representation of the band and all of their success stories.
The casting was almost too perfect because all of the actors could be considered doppelgangers of the real band. The characters were inspiring and tremendously hard working when it came to their music. Queen is a band that is represented so highly in the industry and highly in people’s hearts. The movie portrayed the band as a family and their fans part of that family.

One of the most beautiful scenes in the movie was when the band came up with how the audience can be a part of their music by stomping and clapping during “We Will Rock You”. Incorporating the people who helped the band become so successful is such a beautiful tribute to the fans. The band went from fighting to putting their differences aside and creating masterpieces.
Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best films of the year that deserves all the praise it has been getting. The hours spent in the theater goes by like a snap of a finger. The audience feels as if they are in the studio with Queen developing music that will be incredibly popular for a lifetime. Queen will forever be legends.
