Twenty years.  That is how long it has been since the now classic film Jurassic Park premiered on the silver screen worldwide.  This film became known as an obvious spectacle of modern day cinema with its revolutionary special effects and captivating story, Jurassic Park was destined to become the highest grossing film of all time.  It held this title for nearly 5 years, eventually replaced by the film Titanic in 1998.  After a twenty-year absence from theatres, Jurassic Park is being re-released in stunning 3D.
Jurassic Park is the story of an eccentric billionaire, and his plans to open a dinosaur themed island resort.  When two paleontologists, a lawyer, and a chaos theorist come to the island to give it the go-ahead, they are shocked to see real, living dinosaurs inhabit the island.  When the island’s facilities begin to malfunction, the heroes must fight to survive and make their way off the island.
The film brings relatable characters and an emotional story together to present the audience with a frightening thrill ride. You really begin to care about the characters in the story.  Spielberg is a master at keeping you on the edge of your seat, and Jurassic Park is no exception.
Tossing 3D effects into the equation makes this thrill ride of a movie just that much more enjoyable.  There is an added intimacy to the film that you get from it being in 3D.  Everything feels closer, and more real.  Every emotion you would experience watching the film in its normal format is heightened.  The most notable quality of the film is how well it has aged.  The movie does not feel two decades old.  It is still as terrifying and jaw-droppingly intense as it was when I first saw it as a child.  Adding the 3D to the film brings a new experience to the viewing and definitely makes it worthwhile to see again.  If you never got the chance to see Jurassic Park in theaters I highly suggest you take this opportunity to see it.
See This If: You grew up with this classic, or if you enjoy a great family friendly adventure film.  Also, if you want to share this with someone who has never seen it before.
Don’t See This If: You scare easy or if 3D films make you nauseous.
