5 Reasons Why You Need to See 'This is the End'
Griffin Conlogue ’15 / Emertainment Monthly Writer
This Wednesday marks the release of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s directorial debut, This is the End. If you were having doubts about seeing this film then hopefully you will change your mind because it is one of the funniest comedy releases in the past few years. Here are the top 5 reasons you should see this movie instead of spending your money on that Will Smith-starring disaster from that M. Night Shyamalan guy or on your third viewing of Fast and Furious 6.
5. Cameos on cameos on cameos:
It seemed like every funny man was invited to this party. James Franco is accompanied by Aziz Ansari, Kevin Hart, Jason Segel, and many, many more, and they all get to showcase their comedy in hilarious supporting roles. Name a comedian that has starred in a raunchy comedy in the last few years and they are probably in this movie.
4. When was the last time you saw a comedy in this genre and genuinely loved it?
With the declining quality of the Hangover films and guys like Paul Rudd settling for tame family-friendly comedies, we haven’t seen a truly great R-rated raunchy comedy in a while. Rogen hasn’t been in a movie like this since 2008’s Pineapple Express. Jonah Hill has been acting in more serious films like Moneyball as of late. James Franco is starring in a whomping 9 films this year and only one of them is a comedy. It’s been quite some time since we’ve had a gross-out comedic romp this good.
3. Demon Jonah Hill:
You’ll know what I mean if you see the movie.
2. Homemade Sequel:
Some of you may have seen a little hint of this on April Fool’s Day, but for those who haven’t you will love this little gift. Without spoiling anything, the guys in the movie decide to produce a sequel to one of their films. ‘Cause what else are you gonna do with all of the time in the world and the camera from 127 Hours? Much like the film itself, this is sort of a little present to the fans of raunchy comedies.
1. Michael Cera:
Plain and simple, he is the funniest part of this film, playing such a hilarious and obnoxious version of himself. If you’ve seen the red band trailer, you probably have a general idea of the comedic chops he brings to this movie, but you haven’t seen anything yet. His brief cameo nearly makes the film. If you love him, you’ll find the self parody incredible. If you hate him, you’ll love his character even more. Seriously. He’s that good.
Don’t miss This is the End in theaters Wednesday, June 12th!
Will surely check this one out.
