Trailer Analysis: The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street seems to have many of the components of a critical and commercial hit.  Scorsese is one of, if not the greatest director to ever live, and this film looks like it will continue to highlight his artistry.  It looks as if Scorsese may have directed another Oscar favorite.  When Leo and Marty come together you can expect magic to happen, and this will be their fifth collaboration following Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, and Shutter Island; all quality films.  But just how good can this film be?
The Wolf of Wall Street might just have the strongest cast yet in a Scorsese film.  Leonardo DiCaprio is one of Hollywood’s best living actors. Jean Dujardin is an Academy Award winner for his role in The Artist.  Matthew McConaughey is about due for a nomination himself.  Jonah Hill will get to show off his range of both comedy and drama with this film.  Kyle Chandler is an Emmy winning actor who is just beginning his career as a film actor.  Jon Bernthal, Rob Reiner, and Cristin Milioti are just a few more names to take note of in this cast.  This is one of the deepest and most talented casts I have ever seen in a film and all of them shine in this trailer.
The trailer is appropriately set to “Black Skinhead” from Kanye West’s new album, Yeezus.  This song matches the frantic and fast-paced style of what is teased of the film. I can also already tell that his movie is going to be hilarious based on the short clips shown. The dialogue seems incredibly witty. Terence Winter, known best for writing on The Sopranos and show running Boardwalk Empire, is clearly not known for being a comedic writer, but the screenplay for this film will most likely prove otherwise.
Scorsese is trying new things and it looks like he has a hit on this hands. Though most of his films have some level of humor in them, this is the first that seems to be primarily comedic.  If he keeps making films that look this good, he should never retire. Expect to hear good things about this film leading up to its release.
