NYCC 2013: Arkham Origins Panel

Michael Moccio ’16 / Emertainment Monthly Managing Editor

The highlight of Saturday at New York Comic Con was absolutely the Arkham Origins panel. Not only did Emertainment attend the panel at the end of the day, we were also invited to attend the roundtable set exclusive to the press, where we got access to Roger Craig Smith, Troy Baker, and game producer Eric Holmes.

The big announcements from the Arkham Origins panel revealed that the Electrocutioner has been announced as another assassin, and that Arkham Origins will be produced on a mobile platform that has cross-platform capabilities similar to the Injustice tie-in. The iOS version of Arkham Origins will be released “very, very soon” according to the NetherRealm representative attending the panel—you can check out both trailers below!

The panel started with trailer that’s been shown to the game before, as seen above.

The guest on the panel was a representative from NetherRealm Studios, who developed the Injustice mobile tie-in game. From the looks of the trailer—again, above—the gameplay will be similar to that of Arkham City, albeit a bit more advanced. It appears that you will be able to fight the same villains through the different controls and experience the mobile platform supplies.

The panel talks more about the game itself, with Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker both taking the floor to talk about their roles as Batman and Joker respectively. Baker had said that they’re “paying homage” to these iconic characters “because you really can’t add anything more” after Mark Hamil, Kevin Conroy, Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, etc. Both were very humble about their roles, especially Baker, who was coerced into performing for the panel. Reciting the Joker monologue from The Killing Joke, he performed phenomenally.

The panel closed out with the reveal of the next assassin from the game: the Electrocutioner. This lesser-known DC Villain hasn’t been in many stories in recent memory, though it will be interesting to see how he’s incorporated into the Arkham Origins game!
