The voice actor Vic Mignogna did a Q&A session at Super Megafest on Saturday for fans. Mignogna’s most famous roles include Edward Elric from the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, Broly in Dragon Ball Z, and Tamaki Suou from Ouran High School Host Club. He also talked briefly about his career in music. Recently, he made a DVD of his live convention concerts that also has a clip of him auditioning for the vocal competition show Star Search in 1993. The DVD includes a fifteen-minute fan film Mignogna made with other cast members of Fullmetal Alchemist cosplaying as their Fullmetal characters, a video that was originally only available to view live at conventions.

During the Q&A, Mignogna discussed his time on Fullmetal Alchemist, and even reenacted some of the fans favorite moments from Ouran High School Host Club. He also told a story about the first time he met Aaron Dismuke (who voiced Edward Elric’s brother, Alphonse in Fullmetal) at the Dallas Anime Kon. Since few of the voice actors ever came in contact with each other during work, Mignogna had previously never met Dismuke despite having already finished about twenty episodes. At the time Fullmetal had not yet aired so Dismuke had never attended an anime convention before, and because, as Mignogna said: “he was twelve.” Mignogna was told that Dismuke was walking around the convention with his mother and “and they pointed him out and I was like ‘BROTHER’ and went running up and was just like, hugging this little kid—who had never met me before. But, I felt like I knew him, just from hearing his voice.”
It was a lot of fun seeing Vic interacting with the fans and hearing his favorite moments from his time working on Fullmetal Alchemist. We look forward to seeing his future projects.
Check back with us in the next couple weeks for a one-on-one interview with Vic Mignogna himself and check out some awesome cosplay pictures from the convention below!
