Channing Tatum And Jonah Hill Head To College In 22 Jump Street

In 2012, many cringed at the idea of adapting the classic 1987 cop drama 21 Jump Street into a film. A comedic film none the less, that paired together two polar opposite stars (Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum). How wrong we were about a film that went on to gross over 200 million world wide.
Now the pair return to fulfill the mission assigned to them at the end of 21 Jump Street – college life. The trailer opens to the narration of Deputy Chief Hardy (Nick Offerman, Parks and Recreation) poking fun at the whole idea of television to film adaptations,while also mocking the whole foundations of the new edition. Excellent parallel at how surprise hits work in Hollywood, you get lucky and all of a sudden all the studios want to invest two times as much money for your film to continue. Hardy reveals that the title change is due to the change in location; “The Koreans bought the church back, so we’re moving you across the road … to 22 Jump Street”.
The story does seem to follow the curse of the comedy sequel by following the same basic story. Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) pose as college students to catch drug dealers and possibly manufacturers. A large portion of the trailer shows a stylized version of the college that they are attending, cuts to the partners making action posses on a roof, hard partying and of course a great deal of comedic mayhem.
One new edition is Jillian Bell (Workaholics) who seems to be doing a good job holding her own against Schmidt and Jenko as she tells them to ‘take it down to a level of shut up’. Another large tidbit is the return of Mr. Walters (Rob Riggle) as Schmidt and Jenko visit him in prison to maybe form a Hannibal Lector and Clarice Starling relationship. Except one with a lot of tension because Schmidt did shoot off Walters’ dick in the first film. It’s okay though claims Mr. Walters, “They gave me a vagina”.
Eric (Dave Franco) also returns as Walters’ cellmate, who refuses to say that they’re together. With a fusion of staying true to what made the first one feel so special and adding in some new editions and delivering some very funny jokes 22 Jump Street might end up surprising people like its predecessor did. Hopefully this one also tackles the insecurities Schmidt and Jenko on a new level, Ja feel?
The comedy is slated to be released June 13th, 2014.
