Review: The Wolf of Wall Street Is Full Of Debauchery, Drugs, and A Good Time

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have worked their magic once again.
The Wolf of Wall Street is a dark comedy that is definitely a hard R-rated film. If movies with vulgarity and blatant displays of the female body turn you away, then don’t go see it; if movies with with drugs and blatant misuse of power and wealth disgust you, then think twice about seeing it. However, if none of these things bother you, you want to laugh, and you’re willing to be a little bit uncomfortable, then go see this film.
Leonardo DiCaprio shines in his role as Jordan Belfort, a man who wants to be and become a successful, rich stockbroker. Along with cast members such as Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey (who had everyone in the theater banging on their chests and humming), DiCaprio manages to make a bad man look so good. What the characters did in this film was horrible, but the cast and their performances kind of make you want to do what they did it too.
There were definitely some moments in the film where it was hard to watch, moments where you looked on because the actors commanded your attention and definitely moments where you looked on as you howled in laughter. Every member in this cast holds their own and shines in this film.
The direction in the movie is wonderful: not only does Scorsese get the most out of his actors, he also gets the most out of his scenery and plot. The dialogue of this movie could almost exist as a whole separate character. And the scenery? It’s the 1980’s to he 2000’s, and we are definitely reminded of it, from old block-like computers to pagers. The visuals are great with nice sharp colors, the costumes are on point, and everything is beautiful.
Scorsese and DiCaprio did a wonderful job, and made a movie that gives viewers one of the wildest- and greatest- three hours of their lives.
Overall Grade : A+
