This weekend’s box office results bring in five highly rated and anticipated films into competition with each other for the top spot.  The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug managed to hold onto first against formidable opponent Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which knocked Disney’s Frozen into third place.  Oscar seekers American Hustle and Saving Mr. Banks effectively took the fourth and fifth spots with their top-notch casts.
All five films currently raking in the top spots have been highly anticipated since the announcement of their releases but they’re still going to be fighting a bloody battle for the top of the box office this weekend as the Christmas movie release season continues.  The remainder of this week and weekend will see the release of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, starring Ben Stiller, 47 Ronin, starring Keanu Reeves, and The Wolf of Wall Street, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill.
