Sony Announces Plan for "Spider-Man" Take Over

Sony is pushing forwards with their Spider-Man franchise, announcing that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will be released in 2016. It will still be directed by Marc Webb, the original and current director of the revitalized franchise.
Following the trend set by Marvel with their cinematic universe, Sony is hoping to release a variety of new Spider-Man films.
“We are expanding the Spider-Man universe to the Sinister Six and Venom, so that we have ‘Spider-Man’ movies every year,” said co-chairman of Sony Pictures, Amy Pascal.
A Sinister Six spinoff is not very surprising, seeing as Sony has been teasing their existence ever since the first trailer came out last year. The primary villain in the group, Doctor Otto Octavius, has already proved himself on the big screen in the old trilogy. He has also increased his notoriety during the nearly complete run of Superior Spider-Man, where he stole the body of Spider-Man from Peter Parker.
It’s the Venom announcement that is slightly more surprising, seeing how chaotic his inclusion to Sam Raimi’s trilogy turned out. But, seeing as it was a Sony executive who pushed to include him at all, maybe it shouldn’t seem like such a surprise. Especially since they need popular titles to support their every-year plan.
The direction any of these movies will take is still hidden from the public eye, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will clear up some of the mystery , but that will have to wait until it is released on May 2 of this year.
