Zack Snyder confirmed on Twitter at 10:24 PM April 15th that there would be a special IMAX event to release the trailer of the hotly anticipated follow-up to Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Snyder’s original tweet has since received over 13000 favorites and 18000 retweets. Attached was a 21-second teaser to the teaser trailer.
Although no footage from the film itself was revealed, there were two key images from the teaser that are worth taking a look at.

These images are, obviously, Superman’s and Batman’s respective uniforms. It definitely appears that Snyder is continuing the dark and gritty aesthetic from Man of Steel, but it looks like Superman’s outfit will be a bit brighter in Batman v Superman. Batman’s outfit is absolutely characteristic of his uniform in Frank Miller’s seminal graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns, with its short bat ears and streamlined look. This isn’t a surprise after all the press confirming that the creative team would be taking inspiration from the graphic novel last year.
People might be wondering if Batman v Superman deserves a teaser to a teaser trailer or even a special IMAX event releasing the actual trailer. The simple answer is yes. Back when Batman v Superman and Captain America 3 shared the same release weekend, it was clear that Batman v Superman would win commercially between the two.
DC Comics’ two biggest properties are Superman and Batman—both characters are icons of popular culture. To see both of them on screen at the same time is something that fans have been dreaming of for decades and no one—DC fan or Marvel fan—would miss this.
That’s why you can guarantee theaters everywhere will be packed with fans to watch the release of the trailer on April 20th. Hope to see you there!
