First Look: American Hustle

What do you get when you combine David O. Russell, a star-studded cast, and a lot of hairspray? American Hustle, the director’s upcoming crime drama set in the 1970’s. While there has been buzz about this film for a while, a recently released teaser trailer finally gave us our first glimpse into the colorful world O. Russell has created.

Christian Bale leads the pack, accompanied by Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Jennifer Lawrence. All except Renner have been nominated for an Oscar for their work in an O. Russell film, with Bale and Lawrence succeeding to take home trophies. And with a true actor’s director at the helm of Hustle, it’s more than likely that we’ll be seeing these stars at the Academy Awards once again come February.

Besides the fact that this film is already on the Oscar radar, it just looks like a genuinely good time at the movies. Everyone involved, from the actors to the hair and makeup artists, has clearly brought their A-game and the ‘70’s setting infuses a fun sense of nostalgia that audiences will eat up. This is a film that you’re going to hear a lot about as its Christmas release date approaches. Be sure to check out the teaser if you haven’t already.
