Ellen Degeneres announced Friday she will be hosting the 2014 Oscars.
The comedian and talk show host broke the news via Twitter, and made another statement in a press release. “I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time,” she says. The Academy expressed mutual feelings, stating it is “an honor” to have Degeneres host the show once again.
In honor of the announcement, here are five reasons why Ellen Degeneres hosting the Oscars will be awesome.
1. This isn’t her first time.
Degeneres hosted the Oscars in 2007, so she already has some experience in operating one of Hollywood’s biggest awards ceremonies. Things went pretty well for her as she was relatively well-received by the audience and the critics, so it’s likely she will be successful her second time around.

2. She’s actually funny.
This one is a no brainer. Degeneres undoubtedly has a knack for making people laugh. Whether it’s jumping from behind a door and eliciting a scream from Taylor Swift, or getting Dennis Quaid to goof around in Starbucks, she has a spontaneous humor that appeals to both young and old. Check out her silly monologue from her first Oscars experience that had everyone from Helen Mirren to Clint Eastwood to Will Smith laughing up a storm.

Let’s all be grateful for the fact Degeneres is not Seth McFarlane. McFarlane’s now infamous “boob song” was memorable, but not for good reasons. Degeneres doesn’t shy away from poking fun at people, but she can do so without being offensive. Bjork most likely found it funny when Degeneres spoofed her swan dress.

4. She’s been very vocal about issues at hand.
Degeneres may spend most of her time being silly, but she has a serious side as well. She never fails to offer support whenever it is needed most. The bombings at the Boston Marathon and tornadoes in Oklahoma prompted her to speak out, offering her condolences to those affected. Degeneres has perhaps been most outspoken about gay rights, especially since said topic personally affects her and wife Portia de Rossi. Read her open letter to the Supreme Court here.
5. She’ll make everyone dance.
Okay, we’ll have to see about this one. She’ll certainly show off some moves of her own, but we certainly hope she gets the whole audience to join her.
