Heading Back To Litchfield: 'Orange is the New Black' Season 3 Trailer Analysis

The trailer for the third season of Orange is the New Black is finally out and we have a LOT of feelings.
There are a few things to be excited about, one of which is a decent amount of Sophia (Laverne Cox). She was barely in Season 2, and that was heartbreaking. Fans have been pining for Litchfield’s fabulous hairdresser to have more screen time, and this trailer provides hope for this wish to finally come true.
The return of Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) is also sure to spark quite a bit of excitement from fans. Regardless of how anyone feels about her, it will be good to have her back, especially considering it looks like she’s back with a vengeance this time. We see her looking a little bruised, angrily asking Piper (Taylor Schilling) (who may have a new flame?) how she wound up back at Litchfield, and then fist fighting with another inmate. We don’t know what about, but we’re sure as hell excited to find out.
Red (Kate Mulgrew) also looks a little bloodied, but that could be nothing. Lock-in-a-sock wounds take some time to heal, after all.
That brings us to Vee (Lorraine Toussaint), who inflicted those wounds upon her. Season 2 ended with her being demolished by Rosa (Barbara Rosenblat) in the prison van, which, one would think, will have a devastating impact on Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Suzanne (Uzo Aduba). But the trailer depicts the two holding each other, reassuring each other through their tears, so maybe they’ve formed an alliance. That would surely be helpful to each of them, and a closer bond between them would melt the hearts of viewers.
Speaking of hearts, Bennet (Matt McGorry) and Daya (Dascha Polanco) still seem to be wildly in love with each other, but we also see Gloria comforting a crying Daya. While we hope Bennet starts to fully own up to his actions and be there for her as she carries their child, we also worry he might abandon her, hence the motherly arms of Gloria (Selenis Leyva).
Another character who evokes a lot of concern is Morello (Yael Stone). She wasn’t really in a good place at the end of season 2, having covered up breaking into Christopher’s house and later jumping out of the van to let Rosa escape and all. There’s a great possibility that she could be discovered, and a shot of her looking sadly out of an extra secure looking window just adds to our fears. Also, we see Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) driving the van… Does that mean Morello’s been fired? Is it just a red herring?
Fan favorite Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne) is almost absent minus a brief shot of her dressed professionally in an office setting, giving us an impression that maybe she was released. While her freedom would be a reason to celebrate, it’s also another reason to fear for Morello’s well-being considering Nicky was really the only one she trusted enough to let know about the real reason she’s in Litchfield. And actually, Nicky was the rock for quite a few inmates whenever they were upset. The place wouldn’t be the same without her reassuring presence. However, the instance was so short that it might not have meant anything at all. Maybe it was simply from a scene in her backstory and she is still in prison. Either way, the uncertainty is eating at us.
We’ll find out whether our speculations were accurate on June 12th when the season drops on Netflix.

I’d give nearly anything to be locked-up with this group of prisoners.
