On September 25th, Tyler Childers performed at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts as part of his “On the Road” tour.

It was pouring in Mansfield, but the weather cleared up shortly before the show began. The vibes from the lawn were wonderful the whole show, with people showing up armed with  picnic blankets, rain jackets, and endless energy. The whole night, fans were singing and dancing with not only the people they came to the concert with, but with complete strangers.

Tyler Childers is a country singer from Lawrence County, Kentucky. He started writing music as a form of storytelling about his upbringing and love life, leading to the release of his debut album, Bottles and Bibles, in 2011. At the show, h played songs from every album of his career, including two of his most popular love songs, the TikTok viral “All Your’n” and “Lady May.”

Another energetic concert highlight was “Universal Sound,” a song from his 2017 album Purgatory about how interconnected people are and how they need each other. This was the second to last song he played,  and helped the night end on a high note along with closer “House Fire”.

A lot of Tyler Childers songs are about taking the time to enjoy the life you’re living, though, with this being said there are a couple exceptions. One of those exceptions, a song called “Bitin’ List” from Childers’ latest project  Snipe Hunter, broke up the slower songs of the concert with an  upbeat narrative about those  we don’t particularly like. In the tune, Childers talks about how he has a list of people he would bite if he had rabies:

“To put it plain, I just don’t like you / Not a thing about the way you is / And if there ever come a time I got rabies / You’re high on my bitin’ list.”

Tyler Childers is an excellent song writer, a beautiful singer and an even better performer. He brought  an endless, sometimes comedic energy to the stage—telling audience members to share tall-tales about outlandish things happening at the show—and made sure to keep it up all night. If you get the chance to see him while he is still on tour, you should absolutely do it.

And if you can’t, consider giving his music a listen!
