The Next Telltale Games Collaboration: ‘Minecraft’
Nicholas DeBlasio ‘16 / Emertainment Monthly Staff Writer
Between Borderlands and Game of Thrones, Telltale Games has been actively collaborating and producing game series after games series. So what’s next to be crossed off their crossover list? Bioshock? The Elder Scrolls games? Dishonored perhaps?
…Minecraft?
Swedish game developer Mojang has just announced that their popular (perhaps an understatement) sandbox game Minecraft will be getting the Telltale Games treatment in the upcoming Minecraft: Story Mode. The game will follow the choice-based story elements characteristic of Telltale Games, and will also be released in the usual episodic format. The first episode will be released in 2015 – the specific date is as of yet unknown.
“Steve,” the name of the default player skin in Mincraft, had his name mentioned in the announcement. Mojang stated that the intent of the game is not to give Steve an official backstory or reveal anything about the game world, but it remains ambiguous as to whether or not Steve will be featured. Telltale also noted that a number of new characters will be appearing. The gameplay can be assumed to follow typical Telltale controls, based on dialogue choices and simple reactions, though Telltale says only that the game will be “an entirely original Minecraft experience.”
Minecraft: Story Mode will be available for Xbox systems, Playstation systems, PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices.
