The Lone Ranger Premiere: Interviews on the Red Carpet

The Lone Ranger premiered on June 22, 2013 at Disneyland’s California Adventure. The red carpet was full of celebrities, from stars of the film Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, to Sharlto Copley and television’s Tyler Posey. With screaming, mask-wearing fans lining both sides of the carpet, the atmosphere of excitement for the movie was palpable. Joey Bragg from Disney Channel’s show Liv and Maddie was “super excited” to finally be able to watch the movie after weeks of keeping up with the news from on set.
Even the executive producer and screenwriter of The Lone Ranger Terry Rossio believed the movie to be a “must see film for the sheer film making of it alone.” He explained that the work of Gore Verbinski, the director and producer of The Lone Ranger, as well as other movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Rango, was outstanding during this film. Verbinski, being a “visual stylist,” took care to make each shot perfect despite bad weather, scheduling, or even the occasional train car getting thrown around.
After talking with Justin Haythe, the film’s screenwriter, we really began to understand just how different this movie is. After working on a movie like Revolutionary Road, he claimed to “not be the obvious choice [to be the screenwriter],” but the director and producers wanted this movie to stand out and be “a different take.” He continued to praise Verbinski’s emphasis on not just the action, but on making sure “every action is covered by a character.” We also had the chance of talking to District 9 star Sharlto Copley who agreed that Verbinski’s films offer great characterization.
Finally, Chad Oman, one of the film’s executive producers, believed that what differentiates this film from other action flicks out there is the setting: the time of the old west Texas and in the same territory as the Comanche tribe. Oman explained that many “of the original ideas from the radio series” were used to make this film. This great throwback to the original Lone Ranger gives this film and its characters a history and originality.
And what did the Lone Ranger himself, star Armie Hammer, have to say about his experience bringing the masked hero to life?
“Great!” he yelled, with a beaming smile.
So get ready for an action packed, yet emotional and very human story in The Lone Ranger, which hits movie theaters on July 3rd.
