After being on top since it’s release before Thanksgiving, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has finally been knocked out of first place by Disney’s animated showstopper Frozen.  Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones stole second place in its opening weekend with iffy fan reviews.  Critics unanimously agreed that the franchise’s found-footage formula is getting stale though the acting and writing are proclaimed to be better than the previous four films.
Similar to last week, American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street are in a close battle for fourth place with Scorsese’s tale of the debauchery on Wall Street taking the cake by a miniscule $200,000.  Both films are being claimed as well-acted and well-directed and will probably be battling it out again in March at the Academy Awards.
