The Art of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Legend of Korra" Comes to Life in Art Exhibit

As fans of The Legend of Korra wait (im)patiently for news about the upcoming third season entitled “Book Three: Change,” fans of Korra and the original series Avatar: The Last Airbender who live in the New England area have the chance to satisfy their need for the breathtaking art style of the Avatar series. All they have to do is visit the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA, which is currently showing an exhibition of 17 metal prints of art from both shows, provided by Avatar and Korra co-creator Bryan Konietzko.
Konietzko, according to his Tumblr, was looking for a way to raise money for the One Fund Boston following the events of the Boston Marathon bombings when the Montserrat College of Art asked him if he wanted to display some of his artwork in their gallery. Seeing this as an opportunity for a fundraiser that was actually close to Boston, he agreed, and donated 17 metal prints of artwork from both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, with some of the artwork dating back to 2003. All of the prints are being sold in a silent auction, and, according to Konietzko, could raise at least $3805 for the One Fund Boston. Konietzko will also make an appearance as the commencement speaker for the Montserrat College of Art’s graduation this Friday, May 16^th and will be doing a signing on Saturday the 17^th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This art exhibition has several things going for it that make it appealing for fans of the shows as well as fans of good art: first, the artwork is beautiful; the metal prints are of very high quality, and feature some images related to the shows that have not been seen anywhere else, such as Katara’s Healing Vortex, The Avatar State, and Journey into the Spirit World, while also featuring art that most fans will recognize, including The Trickster Returns, Into the Inferno, and Korra the Pugnacious Avatar. Second, for a fan of either show, the exhibition presents the opportunity to own one of the beautiful prints. The starting bid for most prints is around $200, but for a fan of the show, it’s well worth the price. Third, 100 percent of the proceeds of the silent auction go to the One Fund Boston, so by bidding on and possibly winning one of the prints, you are helping people affected by the Boston Marathon bombings. Finally, if you happen to go to the exhibition this Saturday, May 17^th, between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., you can meet the man behind the exhibition, Bryan Konietzko, who will be doing a signing during that time.
This exhibition of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra artwork opened on April 29^th, and will close on Saturday, May 17^th. The exhibition is on display at the Montserrat College of Art, 23 Essex Street, Beverly, MA. The exhibit is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All of the artwork in the exhibition is for sale through a silent auction, with all of the proceeds going to the One Fund Boston.
