Box Office Roundup (12/27-12/29)

This weekend’s box office results show little deviation from last week despite the release of two highly anticipated films: The Wolf of Wall Street and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The first did well, making a respectable $18 million in its first weekend while the second, directed by star Ben Stiller, failed to live up to its fantastical implications and flopped in comparison to other films currently out this weekend. Long-running top dog Frozen managed to take back second place (by a long shot) from Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, likely because of the many families taking their young children to the movies as a post-Christmas celebration. Though currently in its sixth week in theaters, Disney’s newest tale is still making more than enough money in the box office to keep it afloat and in theaters for a while longer. It will be interesting to see how all these films fare against this weekend’s newest offering, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, the fifth installment in the popular horror franchise and the first major film to be released in 2014.
