SDCC 2016: ‘Supergirl’ Star Jeremy Jordan Chats Making the Jump from Theater to TV, 4-Part Crossover & More

A Tony nominated theater actor for his work in Newsies, Jeremy Jordan made the leap from Broadway to TV once again last season on Supergirl. Jordan takes on the roll of Winn, an IT expert at Cat Co. and one of Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) closest friends.
At SDCC 2016, Supergirl star Jeremy Jordan talks making the leap from theater to TV, who he wants Winn to hang out with during the crossover and much more!

How has it been making the switch from Broadway to TV?
Jeremy Jordan: It’s been great. I’ve done a little bit of TV then gone back to theater then TV. Although, I do miss theater. It’s been a little bit of a time for me. Honestly, TV is way easier. You work eight shows a week in theater, you don’t have weekends off. But I love theater and I’m loving TV.
Theater isn’t too far from the Supergirl set it seems like.
Jeremy Jordan: Yeah, we definitely have our theater group on Supergirl. We have some singers in the cast. So we just goof around and sing songs all day. We are pretty normal, but we do get to goof off a bit.
We try to have as much fun as possible. It’s long days, so you have to make it exciting. It’s going to be interesting moving to Vancouver with a whole new crew and we’re the only people that we know. It will probably bring us a little closer together. It’s like a whole new beginning in many ways.
We’ve seen Winn evolve so much in season one. Where is Winn headed in season two?
Jeremy Jordan: You know, we saw Winn start off as very meek, very unassuming. Sort of, not confident whatsoever. Then when Kara reveals herself to him, he sort of kickstarted into realizing his potential. He’s this IT guy at Cat Co., but he’s actually an incredible computer genius. It takes a lot of facing his fears and facing his past and actually making a move on the girl, to finally reach that place. I think he’s gotten much farther than I think he could’ve ever dreamed even in just the one year that he’s been there. So, I can’t imagine he’ll be at Cat Co. as an IT guy much longer.
You guys are going to be part of the major 4-part crossover with Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow! Are there any characters you’re excited to see Winn interact with? Or any actors you hope to work with?
Jeremy Jordan: Yeah! I just want there to be a nerd off between Felicity [Emily Bett Rickards] and Cisco [Carlos Valdes]. Throw some Victor Garber in there. Just everybody just getting super nerdy for like ten minutes between all the shows. Just commit to the nerd. I think it would be fun. Winn loves meeting superheroes. You’ll see when he meets Superman [Tyler Hoechlin], it’s like meeting God for Winn. He might cry a little bit.
Winn has a very dark past. Do you think he would ever follow in his father’s footsteps?
Jeremy Jordan: I wouldn’t rule it out, but I will say, when we did this [SDCC] last year, everybody thought I was gonna be a bad guy. Then I wasn’t! What we saw was Winn seeing this terrible stuff happening in his past and then making the conscience decision to not let that shape him. He’s been living his whole life in denial, not dealing with it, so he’s been a good guy, but he’s really just been someone who doesn’t deal with anything. He’s afraid that if he actually accepts it and actually thinks about it, he could go down that dark path. He makes the decision not to. I think it’s going to take a lot for him to do that, but it certainly isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
