Fall TV Schedule: What's on When? And What Does it All Mean?

Alex McCormick ’16 / Emertainment Monthly Editor
Below is the fall prime time television schedule.
(Blue = New Show, Red = New Timeslot)
Fall Schedule
ABC

  • Once Upon a Time‘s spinoff is airing on Thursdays, which is an interesting choice, especially for such a specific genre show.
  • Suburgatory being absent from the fall lineup does not bode well for the series.
  • Agents of SHIELD has a perfect timeslot and will absolutely annihilate any competition it may have.
  • Interesting choice pairing Rebel Wilson’s Super Fun Night with Modern Family.

FOX

  • The most distressing part of FOX’s fall schedule? Raising Hope moving to Fridays; it is not a good sign for the show’s future.
  • The most confusing choice FOX execs made with the fall schedule? Putting the veteran, high-rated drama Bones squarely in the Friday night “death slot” to make room for what is essentially an offshot of Robocop.
  • I think the pairing of New Girl and The Mindy Project is perfect, but I don’t really see either show’s ratings increasing by much.

Returning Shows – Fall: American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, Bones, Family Guy, Glee, The Mindy Project, New Girl, Raising Hope, The Simpsons, The X-Factor
Returning Shows – Midseason: American Idol, The Following
Returning Shows – New Timeslot: Bones, Raising Hope
New Shows – Fall: Almost Human, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Dads, Enlisted, Rake, Sleepy Hollow
New Shows – Midseason: Gang Related, Murder Police, Surviving Jack, Us and Them
Not Returning from 2012-2013 Season: Ben and Kate, The Cleveland Show, Fringe, The Mob Doctor, Touch
NBC

  • Parenthood‘s move to Thursday is a great decision.
  • If Dracula performs well, I can totally see an NBC Friday Fright Night, creating a block of thrillers consisting of DraculaHannibal, and Grimm.
  • Chicago Fire is either going to gain viewers from The Voice, or lose viewers because it follows two reality shows, which CF is not.

Returning Shows – Fall: The Biggest Loser, Grimm, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Parenthood, Parks and Recreation, Revolution, The Voice
Returning Shows – Midseason: Community, Hannibal, The Sing-Off
Returning Shows – New Timeslot: The Biggest Loser, Chicago Fire, Parenthood, Parks and Recreation, Revolution, The Voice
New Shows – Fall: The Blacklist, Dracula, Ironside, The Michael J. Fox Show, Sean Saves the World, Welcome to the Family
New Shows – Midseason: About a Boy, Believe, Crisis, Crossbones, Chicago PD, The Family Guide, Food Fighters, The Million Second Quiz, The Night Shift, Undatable
Not Returning from 2012-2013 Season: Animal Practice, Deception, Do No Harm, Go On, Guys With Kids, The New Normal, The Office, Smash, Up All Night, Whitney, 30 Rock, 1600 Penn
The CW

  • Supernatural is back to its Tuesday timeslot for no reason other than the executive in charge of scheduling was bored.
  • The Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals has MAJOR competition, but it’s a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, so it’ll be renewed either way.
  • The network replaced two canceled, low-rated dramas (Gossip Girl, 90210) with two other low-rated dramas (Hart of Dixie, Beauty and the Beast).

Returning Shows – Fall: America’s Next Top Model, Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries, Hart of Dixie, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries
Returning Shows – Midseason: Nikita
Returning Shows – New Timeslot: America’s Next Top Model, Beauty and the Beast, Hart of Dixie, Supernatural
New Shows – Fall: The Originals, Reign, The Tomorrow People
New Shows – Midseason: Star-Crossed, The 100
Not Returning from 2012-2013 Season: Cult, Gossip Girl and Emily Owens, MD, 90210
