2013 Grammy Awards

Elliot Friar ’16 / Emertainment Monthly Staff Writer

The Grammys, basically the music industry’s biggest night of awards and performances, was this past Sunday and it sure didn’t disappoint. Despite some notable absences in the audience like Lady Gaga, Kanye West, and Justin Timberlake, the awards show was still very impressive with the acts it did have. Here are our favorite moments from the show.

1. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift head banged, hit those piano keys and sang me into cardiac arrest with her performance of  “All Too Well.” Taylor has improved greatly in live performances over the years, and this performance sealed the deal for her entry into true super stardom.

2. P!nk and Nate Ruess

P!nk returned to her amazing acrobatic ways during her performance of “Try,” before swooping down to belt “Just Give Me A Reason” with Fun.’s Nate Ruess. No flaws detected in this magnificent display of raw talent.

3. Beyoncé

There are only a few people in the world who can pull off sitting on a chair with messy hair and singing over a track. Beyoncé is one of those people. Everything the singer has done with her self-titled album has been historic, iconic, life-changing and earth-saving. This performance was no exception.

4. Sara Bareilles and Carole King

There’s nothing better than a younger and older talent coming together in piano harmony to sing their respective old and new hit songs. Be “Beautiful” and “Brave,” ladies. Show them who the real queens are.

5. Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert, Madonna and Queen Latifah

This spectacle of love and music seemed to win everyone over. Mary Lambert had the moment she deserved at the Grammys, Madonna walked on a cane while not lip-syncing at multiple live gay and straight weddings, Queen Latifah officiated over those weddings and rappers expressed their support for “Same Love.” You’re not human if you didn’t get goosebumps.
