Doppelgangaz Video Review

The Doppelgangaz don their iconic black cloaks as they bust out their single off their brand new album Peace Kehd. Their single and accompanying video, “Knowntchootahlie”, barrels out with a fluctuating synth and snare rhythm and features rappers EP and Matter Ov Fact.

Almost an urban version of Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” video, the “Knowntchootahlie” video features a small crowd of men surrounding EP and Matter Ov Fact, all of which are having a great time dancing to the song. A central feature of the video is a large Barbie-like doll very similar to, if not the same as, the one in Cyrus’ video. Aside from the moments they’re handling the doll, it sometimes distracts from the crowd that initially seemed to be the main focus.

The partiers appear to be in a loft of sorts, which gives off familiar, intimate vibes. However, the setting adds almost nothing to the story about an attractive middle-aged woman being told with the lyrics.

There’s a transitional scene featuring  Matter Ov Fact, where he is devouring a messy slab of ribs before returning to the loft party. The entire video makes it seem as if these guys were attending a party where things got dull, so they broke out the cloaks and decided to entertain their friends.

The end of the video shows EP exiting a public bathroom, wiping “whatevers” on his hands on his cloak. The two rappers end up at a laundromat, washing their cloaks side by side.

Overall, the video just wasn’t as entertaining as it could have been. The song is upbeat and fun, much like the group’s personality, but the dark lighting fails to reflect this. It was stagnant, only to be broken up by little cutaway scenes that had nothing to do with the rest of the video. It doesn’t do the song the justice it deserves.
