When Washington-based duo Odesza stopped by Boston’s Paradise Rock Club last month, they gifted the audience with a spectacular performance not to be forgotten anytime soon. Listed as one of the openers for Emancipator that night, Odesza never held back during their performance just because they weren’t headlining. Instead, their hauntingly beautiful melodies swallowed up the crowd as the duo’s set welcomed new and old fans alike.

The producers let their music speak for itself, hardly ever interrupting the set to joke around with the crowd or even introduce the next track. Despite this, Odesza’s connection with the audience was never called into question. Their set, which is put together using only original productions and remixes, managed to draw the audience in on its own. The result was an auditory connection immeasurably stronger than any vocal connection that could have been made.

Tracks like “My Friends Never Die” and “Without You” brought upon an explosion of excitement in the crowd, while slower tracks like “Home” gave listeners something to sway to in between bursts of dancing. All in all, there was something in the set for everyone to enjoy, regardless of whether you were dancing directly in front of the stage or relaxing with friends back at the bar.

Each track was mixed perfectly with the tracks before and after, creating an extremely tight set that flowed beautifully. Odesza seems to have a keen understanding of what their audience wants, whether that means mixing in a slower tune every so often, dropping a remix, or playing one of their more popular tracks. They possess a certain innovative quality in their live performance, always pushing themselves to form a deeper sonic connection with the crowd and never resting on the laurels of their well-produced music.
