How I Met Your Dad, the spinoff of the CBS hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which wrapped its final season in March, has found its narrator. It has been confirmed that Meg Ryan will be the narrator on the new sitcom.
Ryan will voice Future Sally, played in flashbacks by Greta Gerwig. Ryan will act as the shows narrator similarly to Bob Saget’s role on How I Met Your Mother who voiced Future Ted (played in flashbacks by Josh Radnor). Ryan’s new role is crucial to the layout of the sitcom since it is told primarily through flashback. The addition of Meg Ryan to the cast is huge considering CBS has not officially picked up the show yet. The show now seems like an easy “Yes” for the network.
Known for her laundry list of movie roles, this will be Ryan’s first major prime time TV role. She is most notable for her performances as Sally in When Harry Met Sally and Annie in Sleepless in Seattle. She recently appeared on the hit web-series Web Therapy by written and produced by Lisa Kudrow.
Interested viewers of How I Met Your Dad are already in a frenzy wondering whether or not Ryan will make an appearance on the show. I wouldn’t get your hopes up. For nine seasons Saget voiced Future Ted and viewers never got a glimpse of Saget on screen. When Future Ted was finally revealed to audiences during the series finale he was portrayed by Josh Radnor.
Although How I Met Your Dad is a spinoff it will not be following Tracy Mosby (Cristin Milioti) and her quest for finding Ted. The show will share the similar structure of HIMYM but not the characters (fingers crossed at least some of our favorites from HIMYM will make guest appearances).
How I Met Your Dad will follow Sally (Greta Gerwig) and her quest for her future husband in New York City. Ryan’s voice will play an integral role in the story and anxious viewers are excited to see what she brings the anticipated show. The casting of Ryan comes after a shocking departure of Kryta Rodriguez who was previously casted as one of Sally’s friends.
So get ready to listen up for Ryan’s voice in How I Met Your Dad, which will hopefully be coming to your TV screens in the fall CBS lineup.
