2014 Tony Award Winners and Highlights

It was a long and magical day at the 68^th Annual Tony Awards. The night was filled with laughter, screaming, and tears. Before listing off the night’s big winners, here are some highlights of the evening.

To start off, Radio City Music Hall was packed to the rafters with Broadway’s finest. Everyone dressed to the nines in some incredible outfits. The best outfit of the night? Sutton Foster. The hot pink Reem Acra dress paired with a Fred Leighton handbag and jewelry, the perfect up-do and her fiancé by her side, all looked magnificent together.

Hugh Jackman brought the house down and kept the audience very involved. Even though the cameras stop rolling, the Tony Awards do not. As everyone at home was watching the latest CBS commercials, the audience was watching the technical awards being handed out, celebrities mingling and hugging the winners.

Some of the big winners you didn’t see on camera? Jason Robert Brown took home the Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Orchestration for The Bridges of Madison County and Rosie O’Donnell took home the Isabelle Stevenson Award for her work with NYC Public School and arts education with her program “Rosie’s Theater Kids.”

One highlight of the evening was Audra McDonald making Tony Award history by winning her 6^th performance award. When her name was announced, Radio City Music Hall erupted into cheering and applause as we stood for five minutes as McDonald sobbed and took in the recognition.

The other all-time favorite highlight was now Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller and the great Carole King rocking out with the entire company of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Seeing the two of them share the stage was incredible. They brought the audience to their feet and you couldn’t help but sing along to the iconic song.

Another favorite performance other than Beautiful was Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Seeing Tony Award winners Lena Hall and Neil Patrick Harris turning Radio City Music Hall into a grungy, rock and roll venue was incredible. The performance demonstrated why Hedwig and the Angry Inch cleaned up at last night’s awards.

The other big winners of the night? A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder and All the Way. Gentleman’s Guide who took home Best Musical. The elaborate storyline coupled with the talent of Jefferson Mays, who heads up the incredible cast, was amazing. A well-deserved win for this musical. While All the Way took home the award for Best Play, the star Bryan Cranston walked away with the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Play.
