SDCC 2014: 'Teen Wolf' Confirmed For Season Five

Sophia Ritchie ‘16 / Emertainment Monthly Staff Writer
It’s not truly a Comic Con experience till some poor teenage girl cries over the Teen Wolf cast (specifically Dylan O’Brien) in front of a room full of screaming fans. And MTV’s hit supernatural show didn’t disappoint. Teen Wolf’s Ballroom 20 panel was packed full of fun, action, sneak peeks, and overjoyed-to-the-point-of-fainting admirers of the show.
The Teen Wolf stars, including old favorites Holland Roden, Tyler Hoechlin, O’Brien, and Tyler Posey (who cartwheeled onto the stage to greet the masses), as well as new faces Shelley Hennig and Dylan Sprayberry, joined showrunner Jeff Davis to present insight into the rest of season four, as well as some exciting news.
“We just found out yesterday and had to keep it a secret,” Davis said. “We will be coming back for a fifth season.” Along with this exciting information, Sprayberry, who plays new werewolf Liam, will be upgraded to series regular.
As for the tried and true series regulars, different fates await each of them, some optimistic, others less so.
Roden’s banshee teen queen Lydia Martin will be attempting to gain more control of her powers by the season’s end. “[Lydia] has to be good at everything…that includes saving people,” Roden said. According to her, Lydia is “embracing and excelling at” controlling her powers. Fans will also get to explore the Martin family history that could end up explaining where Lydia’s powers come from.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, new “couple” Stiles and Malia (played by O’Brien and Hennig) will be experiencing some bumps in their relationship, if it can be called that.
“I can say for upcoming, they will — they have a rocky road ahead,” Davis said. And for fans in the know, these roadblocks might have something do with her “parentage,” as Davis put it.
Somewhere in the middle of happy and sad is the fact that resident grump Derek Hale, played by Hoechlin, is going to be having a lot of shirtless fun (happy for the fans, sad for a sheepish Hoechlin). Could romance, real, healthy romance, finally be in the cards for the original Alpha? If the sneak peek into upcoming episodes is to be believed, Derek and newcomer mercenary Braeden, played by Meagan Tandy, are going to be seeing a lot more of each other in the next few weeks.
Among other things, Davis hinted at chemistry between the fan-favorite budding relationship of Melissa McCall and Sheriff Stilinski, as well as insinuating that Peter Hale will be truly embracing his “alpha” side by the season’s end.
Finally, fans converged on audience questioning like ants to honey, and asked every manner of question from, “How does [Posey] feel about inspiring people of color,” (he feels great) to, “Which type of supernatural creature would you be” (“Spider-Man,” O’Brien said emphatically.) It’s safe to say that no matter where Teen Wolf goes, the fans will be there for the ride, laughing and crying the whole way to the next Comic Con.
