Breaking Down the New 'Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire' Trailer

With each new trailer leading up to the release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the wait becomes a little bit more unbearable. Fortunately, the demo will reach the US on October 21 to alleviate some of the pain of waiting. It takes place in Mossdeep City, and allows the player to encounter various Pokémon like Loudred, Nosepass, Linoone, and Slakoth as well as the ability to chose a starter Pokémon between Grovyle, Marshtomp, and Combusken and try out their final evolution’s Mega form. The demo will also include two new mega evolutions, Mega Glalie and Mega Steelix, which are available for transfer over to the main game once it is released.
To receive the demo, players need to sign up for the Pokémon Trainer Club and opt in to receive emails by October 20.
The new trailer for the complete game, released on October 14, reintroduces Latias (available in Alpha Sapphire) and Latios (available in Omega Ruby). Interestingly, the trainer and Stephen encounter one of the Lati Twins waiting in front of some waterfalls, ready to join the team immediately. This is a big change from the original versions of the game, where the player had to search across Hoenn for the chance to just see their version’s Twin before running away Legendary Dog-style.
Giving the player a Lati is not surprising given the new Soar mechanic. This allows the player to hop aboard their Mega Evolved Lati and take control, much like how Surf works. It also gives access to Mirage Spots which contain rare and legendary Pokémon like Ho-Oh, Lugia, Dialga, Palkia, Reshiram, and Zekrom, as well as valuable items. The second twin will also be made available via a downloadable Eon Ticket. More details will be released later on.
A new item, the Pokénav Plus, will make its debut as well. It apparently allows the player to discover hidden Pokémon in tall grass, monitor their berries and secret bases, give in-game updates via the BuzzNav feature, while also serving the function of the original Pokénav.
Two more Mega Evolutions, Beedrill and Pidgeot, make their gameplay debut after being revealed in the most recent issue of CoroCoro, a monthly Japanese manga magazine.
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be available for purchase on November 21.
