Fans of comedy rejoice! After the news that writing duo and 30 Rock creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock were creating a new show starring the comedic talent Ellie Kemper, it was immediately welcomed by fans with open arms. Back in October of 2013, this show was announced and it has already had a bit of an interesting journey.
The series was originally created for FOX, and then it planned to air on NBC, but lets face it, network television has not been a great place for new comedy series to get their start. Luckily, the television gods spoke up and the show was picked up by Netflix. Upon this announcement, Cindy Holland, who is the VP of original content for Netflix said, “The very construct of – its offbeat premise, hilarious and rich characters and serialized storytelling – make it a perfect Netflix comedy series”. So it seems like we have a lot to look forward to and should set our expectations high because it’s even picked up for a second season! But with Tina Fey as the creator, should we have expected anything less?

The main character Kimmy, played by Ellie Kemper (The Office, Bridesmaids), has just escaped 15 years of life in a cult and is starting fresh in New York City. Kemper is a pro at playing the sweet, innocent, and open minded goofball we all love, but this character seems to attain that personality and much more. Perhaps the most moving line of the trailer came when she said “Life beats you up. You can either curl up in a ball and die, or you can stand up and say ‘we’re different and you can’t break us!’”
This show has a lot of promise and with Jane Krakowski playing Kimmy’s boss, we’re definitely in for some comedy gold.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premieres March 6th on Netflix.
