Theater fans have something extra to celebrate this year. With the 2015 Broadway season in full swing with some amazing pieces of theater, Broadway fans can now start preparing for the first ever “BroadwayCon.”

The convention, which is slated to be similar to Comic Con, will be held from January 22-24, 2016 at the New York Hilton Midtown hotel. The major event will bring theater fans face-to-face with each other and some of their favorite Broadway stars, writers, composers and many others. The event is said to feature panels, discussions, workshops, live shows and much more. No word yet on who will be in attendance but, based on the website it is sure to be the event of the year.

The first ever BroadwayCon promises an event unlike anything else the Broadway community has seen. Broadway has several occasions to meet some of the amazing people that put on plays and musicals like marketplaces, flea markets and of course the amazing tradition of standing at the stage door, but this is nothing like it. The BroadwayCon website boasts, “BroadwayCon brings you through the stage door to see and experience what goes on both on stage and behind the scenes. It is a place where Broadway fans can come together to celebrate the shows they love with people who bring them to life.” Quite an experience for fans.

The announcement of BroadwayCon was made in partner with Anthony Rapp, who is best known for his work in Rent and If/Then. Rapp is the co-creator of the event and could not be happier this is finally getting off the ground. In a statement on the BroadwayCon website Rapp says, “I signed on to help create this event not only because it is the first convention for theater fans, and not only because it is a singular opportunity to spend quality time with those who love Broadway most, but because this is the convention that this community deserves.”

The event is by the fans, for the fans and for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to “Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS.” The organization, which was established in 1988, takes part in and hosts numerous Broadway centered events throughout the year including “Broadway Bakes” at the infamous Schmackary’s cookie shop, the annual “Broadway Flea Market” held in Shubert Alley, and of course “Broadway Bares.” BroadwayCon will be another amazing opportunity for fans to enjoy Broadway while helping an amazing cause.

Tickets for BroadwayCon will go on sale March 15, 2015 and the full list of participating talent will be released in the coming months.
