'The Mindy Project' Review/ Recap: "No More Mr. Noishe Guy"

Rachel Smith ’16 / Emertainment Monthly Staff Writer
This week’s Mindy Project is a serious game changer with the episode based on moving. First, Lauren (Tracey Wigfield) is planning on moving to Texas and Mindy (Mindy Kaling) thinking of permanently moving to San Francisco. But will their men go with them? Spoiler Alert: Peter Prentice (Adam Pally) is leaving The Mindy Project! Adam Pally’s contract was only this long, so we all knew it was coming but it doesn’t make it hurt any less.
It didn’t seem like Lauren actually wanted Peter to join her and her son in Texas. They had to get rid of him somehow, so he’s following her there. The cliché going to the airport just before she gets on the plane thing is classic for Mindy Kaling to write into the show, but it wasn’t handled as romantically as many fans may have wished. Peter asks Lauren if she wants him to come with her to Texas and she says, “I can’t tell you that.” How unromantic, but realistic. It ends with a kiss so, of course, Peter’s going.

The writers left the romanticism to Daniel Castellano (Chris Messina) when he buys a place for him and Mindy when she comes back from San Francisco. The rat-infested Harlem brownstone is “just what I’ve always wanted” says a torn Mindy. It is a huge step for Danny, but Mindy knows there’s a place for both of them in California. Mindy and Peter weigh there options and take valid advice from Michelle Kwan’s autobiography—the best running joke of the episode.
Peter and Mindy’s best friendship is emphasized from beginning to end in this episode. Unfortunately, it’s the last we’ll see of it. He even gives her credit for his decision to quit. People aren’t happy, especially Jeremy (Ed Weeks) who had been dating Lauren. They veto his going away party until they realize he’s a real friend to them and should give him a proper goodbye. They attend his party at Mindy’s where her secret is revealed.

Gurglar comes running into the party, see’s that it is a going away celebration, and assumes it’s for Mindy. She had said no to the California practice before, but he thinks she changed her mind. This California opportunity is news to everyone at the party and now presents the newest obstacle for Mindy and Danny’s relationship. If she stays in California, Gurglar will likely be the replacement for Peter Prentice. The whiney doctor and Mindy’s new best friend is played by Tate Ellington and will be an adequate Adam Pally stand in.
Danny and Mindy talk about what they’re going to do if she does go to California. This is why we love these two as a couple. Danny Castellano may be a tough guy from Staten Island but he’s sincere when it comes to their relationship. Mindy decides that she has to go and try this out because she knows she will always regret it. Their relationship is up in the air, until the last moment of the episode.

Peter says his goodbyes to everyone, but Mindy is noticeably absent. She calls him to say goodbye since she was on her way back to Stanford. They have a nice moment of “You’re my best friend, no you’re my best friend” back and forth before Peter drops the bomb “You’re pregnant.” Mindy responds in the Mindyiest way possible by saying, “Exsqueeze me?”
Exsqueeze me is right! She just moved across the country for work, Danny bought a brownstone not anywhere near childproof and they basically just put their relationship on hold. How can she be pregnant? Fans will be anxiously waiting to see how the show handles this. Sometimes bringing a baby into the picture pans out terribly for shows in the long run but if anyone can make it work, it’s Mindy Kaling.
