"The End of an Era" Is Afoot With 'Mad Men' Promotional Photos

When we first met Don Draper, the optimism of the 1950s had begun to fade into the uncertainty of the 1960s, so there is something satisfying about the end of the show doing the same thing with its transition into the 1970s. When we last left Don, man had just landed on the moon, signifying only the beginning of many changes to come.
Over the past few days, AMC has released several promotional photos of the main cast. And while they are typically cryptic of what is to come, there’s something about seeing the characters we’ve grown to know as they embrace 1970s fashion. While we won’t know until May 17th of what will become of Don Draper and the others, the photos offer a lot to speculate about.

Sally continues to grow with each season (that’s one low hemline!), Betty looks elegant, Don’s age is starting to show, and Megan seems distant. What could be next for the Drapers?

Dating back to the pilot, the relationship between Pete and Peggy has been the subject of much discussion and speculation. Here, they seem distant and cold towards each other. Pete looks even worse, and Peggy radiates more power and confidence—could she have gained even more power?

There’s clearly something going on between the show’s two central characters in this photo. The two have had a unique and compelling relationship throughout the run of the series, and it will be nice to see them move past the bumps they’ve had in the past.

Roger and Joan have had a tumultuous relationship throughout the course of the series, but could they have possibly reignited their affair? With their respective marriages essentially over, who knows what lies in store for these two.

Since their marriage in Season 3, Betty’s second marriage to Henry Francis, a prominent politician, has deteriorated considerably. As Betty and Sally look coldly off into the distance, Henry seems happy. Is there more in store?

One of the strengths of Mad Men has always been its female characters with Joan, Peggy, Betty and Megan all exemplifying but still transcending different views of what it meant to be a woman at that time. Their poses here shows that is unlikely to change.
Mad Men returns for its final run on Sunday, April 5th on AMC.
