It was every Pixar fanatics dream when Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the highly anticipated next installment to the Toy Story franchise. During a press conference this afternoon for investors to discuss the company’s fourth quarter and fiscal year results, Iger announced the company’s plan to continue the highly lucrative and loved franchise.

Toy Story 4 will aim for a June 2017 release with Pixar power-house and creative genius John Lasseter as director. At the press conference Iger stated, “John created Toy Story and directed the first two films, and it’s great to have him back directing one of our most valuable properties.” Not only has Lasseter helped helm some of the most beloved Pixar movies, he is now the chief creative officer for the company. Lasseter also was involved in Cars, Cars 2 and is attached to the previously announced Cars 3. Pixar is rolling out the red carpet for Lasseter and his creative genius.

Iger gave very few details on the story for Toy Story 4 but one can guess that it might follow Woody, Buzz and the gang in the their new home with Bonnie as seen at the end Toy Story 3, which came out in 2010. Toy Story 3 grossed over $1 billion worldwide during its release and one can anticipate Toy Story 4 to come close to that, if not surpass it. Woody, Buzz and the entire gang have become staples to generations of children starting with the first movie, which was released in 1995.

Although fans will have to wait until 2017 to see their favorite toys, Pixar has already announced that a 22-minute Christmas special entitled Toy Story That Time Forgot will premiere on ABC on December 2, 2014. The special will feature all of the original voice actors including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles and Joan Cusack.

Toy Story fanatics can start dusting off their cowboy boots and anxiously prepare for the new movie. Toy Story 4 is sure to be another success for Pixar and will introduce these lovable characters to a new generation. Whether you are young, old or somewhere in between, Toy Story 4 will be a must see.
