Not since Robin Williams performed “Blame Canada” nominated from South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut has there been a musical number at the Oscars quite as spectacular, hilarious, unexpected and… well; awesome as “Everything is Awesome.”
Performed by Shawn Patterson, Joshua Bartholomew, Lisa Harriton, The Lonely Island, a bunch of other people and apparently Will Arnett as Michael Keaton’s Batman. The visionary song about the stupidity of mainstream catchy tunes and fascism written for The Lego Movie was just as hilarious and vibrant on the Oscar stage as it was in the animated movie directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. And so gracious! Even though the movie itself wasn’t nominated for an Oscar they gave out a bunch of Oscars made of legos.

The number included an opening from Lego movie animation, presumably done by Lord and Miller, and continued into an elaborate setup of ridiculous costumes and set pieces that yield feelings of childhood nostalgia and raw Sandberg style of nonsense humor.
This is worth looking up on Youtube whether you saw it or not; there are not enough words to describe the hilarity, the ridiculousness, the infinite meme-worthy epiphanies of profane cartoony childlike awesomeness that is the Oscar performance of “Everything is Awesome”. Whether they actually take home god (and they never had a chance for the record) this number was the highlight of the night besides seeing Benedict Cumberbatch drinking from a flash (also meme-worthy) and Neil reenacting Birdman and emerging on stage in bulgy briefs(of course). Everything about these Oscars has been awesome and “Everything is Awesome” was particularly worthy of significantly awe-inspiring appreciation.
