The Too Many Streamy Awards that We Didn’t See on the Live Show
Cornelia Tzana ‘17 / Emertainment Monthly Assistant Comic Books Editor
It is common knowledge by now that televised award shows deprive many of the nominees and winners of the opportunity to appear on live TV and claim their deserved recognition. Usually, behind-the-scenes categories are announced prior to the show for the sake of saving time and keeping the audience interested, which is expected in the world of television. However, the 2015 Streamy Awards took it a step too far and decided to announce thirty five of the winners during the Streamy Nominee Reception on Tuesday, leaving only nine awards for Thursday’s live show.
Many of the categories that were pre-announced such as Food, Fashion, Gaming, Sports, Cover Song and Social Good Campaign represented big parts of the YouTube population with big names like PewDiePie, Blogilates, Epic Rap Battles of History and #ProudToLove taking the silver statuette home. It is a surprise that YouTubers with so many subscribers were left out of the show when they could have pulled in so many more viewers.
No matter what the reason behind these choices may be, the world of YouTube is thrilled to have the Streamy Awards presented on TV. Emertainment Monthly is bringing you the list of the winners that did not make it to the live stream.
