The Walking Dead Renewed for a Fifth Season

AMC has just announced that The Walking Dead will return for a fifth season. This should not come as a surprise to anyone, since the show is constantly breaking viewership records. This season’s premiere was watched by 13.2 million adults in the coveted 18-49 age group; shattering the previous record for a non-sports cable show. These numbers are significantly higher than many network shows.
The Walking Dead is becoming notorious for the constant switching of the guard when it comes to showrunners. There have been three showrunners over the show’s four seasons-Frank Darabont, Glen Mazzara, and now Scott Gimple. With the fifth season pickup however, Gimple is staying at the helm. Along with Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, and Tom Luse are continuing their roles as executive producers.
AMC also announced that they are releasing a spinoff of The Walking Dead based on a new story and new characters, which will air in 2015.
