Idina Menzel has announced she’ll be defying gravity on Broadway once again! Okay, maybe not quite… But she is returning to Broadway.
Menzel is starring in If/Then, a new musical which, according to the show’s website, is “set at the intersection of choice and chance, where the road you takes meets the road you didn’t.”
If/Then features an accomplished team including director Michael Greif, producer David Stone, composer Tom Kitt, and scribe Tom Yorkey, all of whom were crew for the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning Next to Normal. Greif and Stone have both worked with Menzel before on Rent and Wicked, respectively. Fellow Rent star Anthony Rapp is also on the cast list of If/Then.
Pre-broadway engagements of the show began in Washington, D.C. in November, and more preview shows will begin at Broadway on March 4th at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Opening night is set for March 27th.
Menzel began her Broadway career in 1996, playing Maureen Johnson in Rent, a role for which she received a Tony nomination. She then went on to win a Tony award for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal as Elphaba in Wicked. Her film and television endeavors include Enchanted, Glee, a film adaptation of Rent, and most recently, the wildly successful Frozen.
Tickets for If/Then are on sale now.
