A Valentine's Day Playlist for the Old Soul

Tessa Roy ’16 / Emertainment Monthly Assistant Editor
We may be nearing the end of Valentine’s Day, but don’t try to tell me it’s over yet. There are still chocolates to be eaten, flowers to be given, and kisses to be exchanged. Or maybe you’re not into the holiday, and that’s fine too.
Regardless of how you celebrate it, Emertainment Monthly wants to make sure you’ve got the perfect music to keep you going through the rest of Valentine’s Day. So we made you a playlist, but did something a little different. We skipped all the contemporaries and catered to the good old classics. Then we categorized them. Whether you’re head over heels in love or feeling down in the dumps, we’re here for you. So let’s get started. If you’re feeling…
… super sappy
Elvis Presley – “Love Me Tender”
What’s a classic love song playlist without The King? “Love Me Tender” will nurture your shameless soft spot like no other.

Frank Sinatra – “Fly Me to the Moon”
Let Old Blue Eyes whisk you and your lover to another world dominated by fancy hats and wind instruments.

Al Green – “Let’s Stay Together”
The ultimate commitment song.

… lonely and sad
Otis Redding – “These Arms of Mine”
For when you just really want a hug.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens – “Another Saturday Night”
Being by yourself on a Saturday night sucks. And this Valentine’s Day just happened to fall on a Saturday. The world is cruel.

Solomon Burke – “Cry to Me”
No phone calls, no visitors, no letters, no nothing? Solomon Burke wants you to let it all out.

… really, really giddy in love
The Beatles – “Eight Days a Week”
It’s actually impossible to do anything for eight days a week. But screw logic! You’re in LOVE!

Madonna – “Burning Up”
Are you so in love your feelings are on fire? The Material Girl’s got you covered.

The Kinks – “You Really Got Me”
One of those songs that perfectly captures what it feels like to need to be thiscloseatalltimes to the one you love.

… like you have no idea what just happened to your relationship.
Aerosmith – “Crazy”
Stuck in a rut? Steven Tyler feels you.

The Supremes – “Where Did Our Love Go”
Don’t be fooled by that happy, upbeat vibe… There’s no love here.

Fleetwood Mac – “Gold Dust Woman”
For when you just can’t pick up the pieces and go home.

… vengeful
Carly Simon – “You’re So Vain”
What do you do when your relationship ends because the other person is just so self-absorbed? Write about it and make sure the whole world knows.

Guns N Roses – “Used to Love Her”
Hilariously morbid but actually kinda terrifying. NOTE: Emertainment Monthly does not endorse the killing of one’s significant other. Even if they bitched so much and drove you nuts.

Nancy Sinatra – “These Boots are Made for Walkin'”
Just got dumped/cheated on/otherwise played by a jerk? Put on your hot boots and walk out.

… in the mood
Donna Summer – “Love to Love You Baby”
Do I really need to explain why this one’s here?

Rolling Stones – “Good Time Women”
“Good time.” Subtle.

Prince – “Little Red Corvette”
There was no way Prince wasn’t going in this category. This clip might have a lot of car photos, but we can promise you this song is totally not about a Corvette.
