‘Hamilton’ and ‘Shuffle Along’ Lead 2016 Tony Award Nominations

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! On May 3rd, Tony Award nominations for the 70th Annual Tony Awards were announced at it’s a big year. Leading the charge with a massive SIXTEEN Tony nominations is Hamilton. With sixteen nominations Hamilton beats the record for most most Tony nominations in a single season ever. The hit musical scored nominations for Best Musical, Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics), Best Book and nominations in each of the major acting categories. It’s no secret, Hamilton is the show to beat this year.
Following Hamilton, is the new musical Shuffle Along starring Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell and many more. The musical snagged ten Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of She Loves Me grabbed eight Tony nominations
On the play side of things, Roundabout’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night snagged seven nominations and the hit new play Eclipsed by Danai Gurira grabbed six nominations including Best Play.
Notable snubs from this years nominations include American Psycho and Shuffle Along’s six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald.
