The Warner Bros panel delivered the first official trailer to Hall H attendees at Comic-Con International on Saturday to much fanfare excitement.
Indeed, for many DC fans, there’s a collective sigh of relief.
Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot as the titular character and follows her journey from her home of Themyscira to the world of man after Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) washes up on shore.
After the mixed to at times negative reception for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman‘s future was at first unsure. But after reviews repeatedly singled out Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Diana Prince as one of the highlights of the film, Wonder Woman‘s release was pushed up from a June 23, 2017 release to a June 17 release.
The trailer released today does exactly what it needed to do: it delivers on all of the potential viewers saw in Batman v Superman.
With a damsel-in-distress Steve Trevor, a well-struck balance between classic action and emotional authenticty (with a little humor for needed levity), and smart dialogue, the story looks promising. There’s a host of new shots showing Themyscira itself, the warriors of the Amazon facing off against an army (and kicking a lot of butt in the process), and some beautifully filmed sequences of Wonder Woman herself in all her glory—complete with horse, lasso, and blade.
Wonder Woman looks like it will be one of the blockbusters to beat next summer.
With a perhaps stilted start with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, the likes of Suicide Squad (releasing August 5) and now Wonder Woman might be exactly what the DC Extended Universe needs to get its footing.
