Last time we saw Korra, in 2014, she brought queer representation alongside Asami as they left for the spirit world. Now, the girls return to Republic City—just to find that the standoff between humans and spirits has worsened!
That’s right, Dark Horse Comics has just recently announced the publication of Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, the first volume in the brand new The Legend of Korra comic series. Slated for release in June 2017, it is considered the official continuation of the Legend of Korra animated series.
Korra’s adventure picks up right where the show left off, and conflict re-arises. The two heroines face an imperious developer who plans to turn the spirit portal into an amusement park, and the triads reunite to cause problems for the city’s evacuees.
To bring the story to life, Michael Dante DiMartino (TV series co-creator and executive producer) lends his writing skills, with collaborative art by Irene Koh, Heather Campbell, and Jane Bak. TV series co-creator and executive producer Bryan Konietzko, who worked alongside DiMartino on the show, lent feedback to the project.
As DiMartino and Konietzko explored during San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, they aim to continue the storylines of Korra and Asami, and Turf Wars will accomplish this feat. The events in Turf Wars help to focus on Korra and Asami’s new relationship under the pressure of conflict, further expanding their development.
