Matt Pond PA came to The Sinclair in Cambridge this past week for the 10th Anniversary of their album Several Arrows Later.

Opening for Matt Pond PA was Young Buffalo, a band out of Mississippi that plays solid, soulful indie rock.  Their music can be best described as music you would play when driving around in the summer with the windows down.  Their tunes were melodic and good to sway to. Young Buffalo includes two guitarists, one keyboardist, a bassist, and a drummer.  This band definitely has their harmonies down and their songs aren’t predictable at all- they switch up their melodies in interesting ways that keep their music lively.  This was Young Buffalo’s first show with Matt Pond PA and they will be accompanying them on the rest of their tour.

Later on, Matt Pond PA took the stage and played the entirety of their Several Arrows Later album. With two guitarists, a bassist, drummer, and a cello/keyboard player it brought a very full and unique sound to The Sinclair.  The band boasted catchy indie rock lead by their charismatic and funny frontman, Matt Pond, who had a strong voice reminiscent of Dave Grohl. After a few songs, Matt told the story of their first show in Boston about ten years ago in which he broke the neck of his guitar on stage.  The band has come a long way since then.  Lyrically, the songs were beautifully written and had fantastic imagery.  Their music is a blend of smooth indie rock and upbeat rock jams that are real foot-tappers.  During the show, their solid fan base really enjoyed the show.  As one man in the audience put it, their music sounds “like a New England winter.”
