In a few weeks school will be out and summer break will begin. What better way to spend the warm weather than reading? Here are some of the most anticipated books coming out this summer!
- God Help the Child by Toni Morrison (Available in April)
Morrison’s 11th novel is keeping in tune with Morrison’s previous stories. A young girl with dark skin is neglected and is abused by her ashamed parents, who have light skin. The details of the story are still fairly hidden, but based on her previous stories it is safe to say that this story will be amazing.
- The Familiar, Volume 1: One Rainy Day in May by Mark Z. Danielewski (Available in May)
This ambitious novel has piqued the interest of many readers since it is the first in a series of 27. The story takes place all over the world, revolving around nine lives, each faced with life altering decisions. The novel is sure to be a favorite and a solid start for the rest of the series.
- The Making of Zombie Wars by Aleksandar Hemon (Available in May)
This humor-filled story is about an aspiring screenwriter, whose life seems to be falling apart. This story comes as Hemon’s first novel since 2008. Finalist for the Nation Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, Hemon’s next novel is expected to be worth the wait.
- It’s a Long Story: My Life by Willie Nelson (Available in May)
Legendary musician Willie Nelson writes about his life and experiences in this autobiography. Nelson spares no details and leaves nothing out in his writing, giving readers a chance to fully grasp who Nelson really is and what his life was like. Fans of music and Nelson will be pleased with Nelson’s honesty and with all they can learn about an American icon.
- Stalin’s Daughter by Rosemary Sullivan (Available in June)
Sullivan’s well researched biography depicts the life of Svetlana Stalin. Sullivan recounts how the daughter of one of the most violent dictators ended up in poverty in Spring Green, Wisconsin. This book highlights the life of a woman often overlooked and is sure to be a big hit amongst history buffs and those looking for a good story to read alike.
- Muse by Jonathan Galassi (Available in June)
Galassi’s first novel combines his inside knowledge of the publishing world and his love of poetry in this story. Paul Dukach is working for an independent publishing house in New York and meets his favorite poet, Ida Perkins, who then tells him her greatest secret, changing both their lives. The story provides a unique prospective that only someone with Galassi’s knowledge of both sides of the literary world would know.
- In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume (Available in June)
Author of many of young girls’ literary childhoods has now a new novel for them, as adults. The story revolves around Miri Ammerman and her life, which is quite similar to actual events that occurred in Blume’s life. Between the familiar writing which has captured the hearts of many young women, and the period accurate references, the care in which this story is written is bound to be hit with Blume’s fans.
- The Fellowship by Philip and Carol Zaleski (Available in June)
This well-researched book is about four of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Surrounding C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield, and Charles Williams, the book describes this group of men, known as the Inklings, and their lives. This account gives the reader a glimpse into the worlds of these men and how some of their most famous works came into being.
- Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee (Available in July)
After the manuscript was found last year, the excitement to read the novel has skyrocketed. Lee submitted Go Set a Watchman to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird, and it features many of the same characters. The story takes place twenty years after To Kill a Mockingbird, and is one of the most awaited stories this summer.
- Girl in the Spider’s Web by Stieg Larson (Available in September)
This novel is the fourth in the thriller series. Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist team up again as they face a new threat, this time involving information vital to the US. The series has attracted 80 million readers and is sure to live up to their standards.
