Lando Steps Into The Spotlight In Marvel’s New Comic Book Series
George Huertas ‘15 / Emertainment Monthly Writer
Lando Calrissian: the picture of cool. The sultan of swagger. One of three men who can claim to have blown up a Death Star. Lando first made his debut in The Empire Strikes Back and has been a fan-favorite ever since, his role bumping up quite a few notches in Return of the Jedi. Despite his popularity, though, Lando has always been something of an enigma, particularly in regards to his past. How were he and Han Solo such good buddies in the first place? And how did he acquire Cloud City in a card game? Now, with the five-issue Lando, the latest addition to Marvel’s Star Wars comic book series, fans may be getting answers.
The eponymous Lando series is described by writer Charles Soule as being a tale of “a man trying to make his way through an uncaring universe determined not to recognize that he was undeniably the coolest man in the galaxy.”
Fan reaction has been largely positive. Soule’s writing talents, coupled with Lando’s popularity with Star Wars fans make this a hotly anticipated title for the Marvel Star Wars comics. This is a great addition to Star Wars canon. No one can replace Billy Dee Williams, so it’s better that his adventures live on in comic form.
Little else has been revealed about the project thus far, but the talent attached (the aforementioned Soule and artist Alex Maleev) and the subject will both warrant a look at the upcoming comic title.
