Back in July of 2012, Toei Animation announced that they would be rebooting Sailor Moon for its 20th anniversary as a new animated series called Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal. When it was first announced, it was expected to air in the summer of 2013, but long stretches of zero information and multiple delays had fans worried about the fate of the show. After multiple events with no news, fans finally received a release date: July 5th 2014. Now with a little less than a month until its release, Toei has finally delivered a trailer for Crystal.
The trailer itself is very simple and doesn’t really give us a big look at what’s coming up on the show. It mostly focuses on footage that seems to be from the first episode. Luna (Ryo Hirohashi) has a voice over through most of the trailer. She tells Usagi (Kotono Mitsuishi) that she has been searching for her over shots of  Usagi preparing herself for school. The trailer goes on to show footage that would be familiar to fans of the series, Usagi running late to school and running into Luna for the first time.
The trailer shifts with a shot of Usagi’s transformation brooch and saying her transformation phrase, “Moon Prism Power, Make Up.” A snippet of the new opening song preformed by the idol group Momoiro Clover Z begins to play over shots of Usagi’s first reactions to her new form as Sailor Moon. The trailer then shows still images of Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus with their names. It ends with Sailor Moon saying her iconic phrase, “In the name of the moon, I will punish you!”
While the trailer doesn’t really reveal any shocking new information, it finally gave fans a look at the animation in motion. The new show looks extremely pretty, from Usagi’s hair that flows in every scene, to the more detailed and personalized outfits, but fans are concerned with the strange body proportions and each character having apparently not emoting as well as they did in the original anime series. Even though many have their reservations, the fandom as a whole is undoubtedly excited to have more Sailor Moon back in their lives.
The show premieres online on July 5th and will be airing on the first and third Saturday of the month. It will be available through Nico Nico Douga and Cruncyroll with English subtitles upon release.  Viz media has acquired the North American distribution rights and will announce its release plan on a later date.
