Tina Fey & Amy Poehler to Host the Golden Globes

In a little over a hour the news of the comedy duo’s hosting gig reached sensational heights, as “Tina Fey and Amy Poehler” and “Golden Globes” shot onto the list of Worldwide Twitter trends. A third related trending topic, “#FavoriteMeanGirlsQuote” also hit the Worldwide Twitter trends charts shortly after the news broke, alluding to the film, Mean Girls, Fey wrote the screenplay for and co-starred in with Poehler back in 2004.
However, Fey and Poehler began their working relationship long before the hit comedy donned the big screens. The two comedic gems first met during their time at the Chicago improv-based sketch comedy theater Second City. However, it was not until Fey and Poehler became the first female team to anchor the “Weekend Update” desk on Saturday Night Live that both lady’s reached comedy icons status.
After leaving Amy Poehler to co-host the “Weekend Update” segment with SNL cast member and now head writer Seth Meyers, Fey went on to create her critically acclaimed NBC comedy series 30 Rock loosely based on her time at Saturday Night Live. Although this time of separation between the comedic pair was far too long for fans to bare, the two teamed up once again in 2008 for the film Baby Mama. And while it might not have had critics raving, fans of Fey and Poehler ceased to be disappointed as the comedic chemistry between the two was stronger than ever. Only a few months prior to the film’s release Poehler bid adieu to Saturday Night Live, however her lack of presence on television was short lived as it was announced later that summerr that Poehler would headline the new NBC mockumentary, Parks and Recreation.
Despite all of the work these two have done both separately and together, one of their most revered moments together on screen will always be the priceless cold open during the 2008 presidential race when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler perfectly embodied politicians Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton.
