SDCC ’13: Warner Bros. Superman/Batman Confirmed!

In what was rather exciting news for DC fans today, Zack Snyder took the stage at SDCC during the Warner Bros panel to officially announce the next movie in the DC Comics lineup: Superman/Batman will arrive in theaters in 2015!

Snyder, who recently directed the box office smash Man Of Steel, will also be returning to direct this chapter of the DC cinematic universe. David S. Goyer, who wrote Man Of Steel, along with Christopher Nolan, are also returning. Henry Cavill is also reprising his role as Superman, and is joined by Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane as Lois Lane, Perry White, and Martha Kent respectively. Batman, however, along with any characters of Gotham, has yet to be cast.

Christopher Nolan and Emma Thompson, the husband wife duo who produced Man Of Steel (Nolan also wrote it), are joining this project in as executive producers. This is a slightly more limited involvement than they had in Man Of Steel, but the fact that they’ll be there in some capacity is always a good sign.

Regardless of what you thought of Man Of Steel, this news is a huge step for DC’s movie career. Although the Dark Knight trilogy was beyond successful, and Man Of Steel is still doing well in the box office, they haven’t been able to completely grasp the idea of a collective cinematic universe, like Marvel. This is certainly a step in the right direction for them, and confirms that they are attempting to do something different than Marvel did with their movie franchise.

But that’s not all! Although not officially confirmed at Comic Con, the Hollywood Reporter and other reputable websites have reported that a Flash movie is in the works for 2016, followed by a JLA movie in 2017. This hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but if it is true, Warner Bros and DC have quite a few exciting years ahead of them.

But now, more questions arise: will we see the fallout from the end of Man Of Steel? Who could the villain be, and will there be more than one? Will we see Batman and Superman duke it out in the streets of Gotham or Metropolis? And, most importantly, who will play Batman?!
