“12 Years A Slave” Leads With 4 SAG Award Nominations

Shannon O’Connor ’16 / Emertainment Monthly Editor-in-Chief

Sasha Alexander (Rizzoli & Isles) and Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) announced the nominees for the 20th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards early Wednesday morning. While there were many snubs (no Robert Redford for All Is Lost) and surprises (Forrest Whitaker for Lee Daniels’ The Butler), Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave led the pack with 4 nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. On the television side of things Breaking Bad led with 3 nominations, one in all of the television drama categories including Best Drama Series, Best Actor and Best Actress.

The SAG Award nominations marked the first announcement of nominations for the awards season, giving people a better picture of what to expect when the Academy Award nominations are announced on January 16. Right now it looks as though 12 Years A Slave is still the frontrunner for the majority of the categories, however American Hustle is giving it a run for its money. Things should be getting interesting as the days and award shows go by leading up to Oscar night.

Tune into the 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday January 18 on TNT and/or TBS.
